If you will be at San Diego Comic-Con next week, you can find me. It will be my first time there, and let's just say, I'm freaking out. FREAKING OUT WITH EXCITEMENT. So please come say hi!!! I like you.

FRIDAY

Romantic Adventure

SFF fans are always down for an adventure, from a daring airship expedition to space-age exploration, but what’s the fun in an adventure if there’s no one to share it with? Some of the most compelling stories in genre fiction spring out of the relationships between two equally awesome characters when they’re thrown together in an out-of-this-world situation. Come discuss the lure of romantic adventure with Chloe Neil (The Devil’s Isle series), Sam Sykes (The City Stained Red), Beth Cato (The Clockwork Crown), Suzanne Young (The Remedy), Gena Showalter (Alice in Zombieland), and Mary E. Pearson (The Heart of Betrayal). Moderated by S. J. Harper (Reckoning).

HOTEL RUBY...

You're invited to the HOTEL RUBY, coming this fall. Here's the description:

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Program comes a brand-new haunting, romantic, and suspenseful story about one girl's search for healing in a grand and mysterious hotel full of secrets.

"Stay tonight. Stay forever."

When Audrey Casella arrives for an unplanned stay at the grand Hotel Ruby, she's grateful for the detour. Just months after their mother's death, Audrey and her brother, Daniel, are on their way to live with their grandmother, dumped on the doorstep of a DNA-matched stranger because their father is drowning in his grief.

Audrey and her family only plan to stay the night, but life in the Ruby can be intoxicating, extending their stay as it provides endless distractions--including handsome guest Elias Lange, who sends Audrey's pulse racing. However, the hotel proves to be as strange as it is beautiful. Nightly fancy affairs in the ballroom are invitation only, and Audrey seems to be the one guest who doesn't have an invite. Instead, she joins the hotel staff on the rooftop, catching whispers about the hotel's dark past.

The more Audrey learns about the new people she's met, the more her curiosity grows. She's torn in different directions--the pull of her past with its overwhelming loss, the promise of a future that holds little joy, and an in-between in a place that is so much more than it seems...

Welcome to the Ruby.

And here's an excerpt from HOTEL RUBY!!

My room is dark when I open my eyes, drawn awake by the low hum of music. I blink until my vision adjusts; the soft glow outside my window tells me it’s not quite dawn. I’ve been asleep for only a few hours. Light seeps from under my door, and I wait a beat for the music to stop. It doesn’t.

Slowly I get out of bed and feel my way toward the door. From the other side I can hear music, faint, but too close to be from the party. I listen, knowing immediately that I’ve heard the song before. I just can’t place it.

I glance back into my dark room and debate returning to bed. Ultimately, the sound is too intriguing. The hinge creaks as I pull open the door, and I poke my head out to see if there’s anyone in the hallway. At first my eyelids flutter at the sudden brightness, but I quickly see that I’m all alone. The music seems to be coming from the end of the hall.

What is that song?

I open the security latch so I won’t get locked out, and then step barefoot into the hallway. I ease my door shut, taking another curious look around. The chords strum, like a guitar, slowly, too slow to make out the melody. When I leave the safety of the vicinity around my door, my heart starts to pound. My throat grows dry.

I study each door I pass, trying to find the source of the music. I’m not sure what time it is, but I know it’s insanely late for people to be awake. Late for them to be listening to a song on a loop. What song?

The temperature in the hallway starts to drop, colder the closer I get to the last door. I wrap my arms around myself, rubbing my shoulders when I start to shiver. I wish my brother and father were on this floor. I hate being alone. I’m almost to the last room—room 1336—when the music starts to fade, like someone is slowly turning down the dial.

I stop, the sense of being watched freezing me in place. I swallow hard, past the dryness in my throat, and peek behind me. Terrified that I’ll find someone (something) standing there.

But the music is gone. Now I’m standing barefoot in the hallway of the Hotel Ruby with uneven breaths and chilled skin. I look once more at the door and then turn to walk quickly back to my room. I slip inside and shut the door, my palm flat against it as I process my fear. For good measure I throw the locks and then move a chair in front of the door.

I stare at the handle and step backward toward my bed, sure I’ll see it turn at any moment. But as the time ticks by, as the sun starts to rise, my panic diminishes. I’m high strung, I tell myself. And maybe just a little drunk

Eventually, I slide under the covers of my bed, exhausted and achy. Soon I’ll be asleep, and my real fears will find me, just as they normally do, to remind me of how I ruined my life.

THE REMEDY posters

In less than three months, THE REMEDY will hit shelves! It's a new story set in a time before The Program. It also happens to be my favorite! THE REMEDY is about a girl named Quinlan who takes on multiple identities in order to help families deal with grief. Only after living so many lives, she starts to forget which one is really hers. Luckily there's Deacon. And we're REALLY happy to see him.

So, my publisher and awesome cover designer helped make a poster that features Deacon! I'm in love with it and I hope you will be, too!

The Program books

Want to know more about THE PROGRAM? Well, I have books for that. Here's a quick list of the books set in the Program world. There are two duologies and one e-novella from Michael Realm's point of view:

Original Series:
THE PROGRAM (available now)
THE TREATMENT (available now)
The Recovery--an original e-novella (February 24th, 2015)

THE PROGRAM
THE TREATMENT
The Recovery

If you've read THE PROGRAM and THE TREATMENT and want to know what happens after the last page, there's a Michael Realm short story called The Recovery. Here's the copy:

Six months after the fall of The Program, ex-handler Michael Realm is struggling with his guilt. After all, he was instrumental in erasing the memories of several patients—including one he claimed to love. With a lifetime of regret stretched before him, Realm vows to set things right.
Along with his friend, James Murphy, Realm will track down those he’s hurt in an attempt to give them back their lives—starting with Dallas Stone. He’s not looking for forgiveness or redemption; he’s not a hero. But Realm hopes that with each recovered past, he’ll be able to reclaim a small bit of his own.

New Series:
THE REMEDY (April 21st, 2015)
THE EPIDEMIC (April, 2016)

THE REMEDY

THE REMEDY and THE EPIDEMIC will focus on a new cast of characters, but the stories are still set in the same world as The Program books. Tons of romance, fear, sadness--all the things I love to write about. Here's a quick look:
In a world before The Program…

Quinlan McKee is a closer. Since the age of seven, Quinn has held the responsibility of providing closure to grieving families with a special skill—she can “become” anyone.

Recommended by grief counselors, Quinn is hired by families to take on the short-term role of a deceased loved one between the ages of fifteen and twenty. She’s not an exact copy, of course, but she wears their clothes and changes her hair, studies them through pictures and videos, and soon, Quinn can act like them, smell like them, and be them for all intents and purposes. But to do her job successfully, she can’t get attached.

Now seventeen, Quinn is deft at recreating herself, sometimes confusing her own past with those of the people she’s portrayed. When she’s given her longest assignment, playing the role of Catalina Barnes, Quinn begins to bond with the deceased girl’s boyfriend. But that’s only the beginning of the complications, especially when Quinn finds out the truth about Catalina’s death. And the epidemic it could start.

I'm kicking around some other ideas, but this is the entire Program world as I imagined it! Hope you enjoy!

Best,
Suz

POET ANDERSON

Pretty excited to announce that I'll be writing a full-length novel for Angels and Airwaves frontman and Blink-182 musician Tom DeLonge. This project is freaking awesome, seriously, and I'm honored to work with such a talented group of artists.

POET ANDERSON: The Dream Walker will kick off with AVA's album The Dream Walker and include an animated short, a series of graphic novels, a full-length feature film, and a novel! Not to mention cool-ass merchandise. Expect me in Poet T-shirts for the next year.

The album drops December 9th, but for now, you can listen to the brand new single "The Wolfpack". Also, you have to see the trailer for the animated film. OMG, I'm so in love with it!

You can read and check out more art and updates on the AVA website: http://www.angelsandairwaves.com/

And here's Tom's interview with MTV.com about the upcoming project (and aliens!): http://www.mtv.com/news/1981560/tom-delonge-dream-walker-aliens-interview/

There's so much more to come! Have a great day!

Fan-Made Trailer for THE PROGRAM

Basically, if you send me your awesome fan-made stuff, I'm probably going to share it. And this trailer is pretty extraordinary. It was on Twitter when I first saw a hashtag about a group making a Program trailer. They'd post stills and fun photos from the shoot. Then @Faith_Lauzon sent me the finished trailer, and I couldn't wait to show you!

Enjoy! Oh, and fun fact that Faith just shared--Sloane and James from the trailer are also a couple in real life... which is ridiculously adorable :)

Book Covers

The second book in The Program series, New York Times bestselling THE TREATMENT, will be getting a new look! Although the original cover (and the case cover) were really cool, they didn't fit with the style of the other books in the series.

My next book THE REMEDY is set in the same world, but stands alone. Also, there may be some small changes made to the top of THE PROGRAM, as well.

But here is the cover for THE TREATMENT along with its book friends. :)

THE REMEDY and oh, hey! A Cover Reveal!

The cover for my next book THE REMEDY was revealed last week over at MTV.com.

THE REMEDY is a spin off from The Program, which basically means new characters in the same world. However, this book takes place before the suicide epidemic begins. Below is the cover and synopsis, plus a link to the fun article on MTV.com

THE REMEDY comes out April 21st, 2015!

Fiction

I saw a comment recently about The Program, stating that it's impossible for suicide to be contagious. That I was irresponsible for suggesting it could be, even if my book is fiction. Research it. Google suicide clusters and look at the articles. I do write fiction. I took a situation and spun it into a make-believe world.

Here are a few I quickly pulled, but ultimately, I wish people would remember that their experiences aren't the only experiences that people can have. Your depression is not my depression. Your brush with suicide does not negate mine. Just my thought for today.

THE WILLING by Suzanne Young

Hey! So I have an adult horror ebook releasing on June 3rd! It's dark, romantic, and pretty messed-up and bloody. :) Hope you like it!

Check out the amazing cover (designed by Michael Strother) and the copy below!!

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Program comes a thrilling new novel about the lust and lure of darkness.

Amelia Cardone has spent her entire life under the guardianship of the Building, a cult of believers who made a pact with her father—the Devil. In exchange for protecting Satan’s child, the Building’s leader was promised untold power after Amelia completes the ceremony on her twenty-third birthday. A ceremony that will permanently raise the Devil from the depths of Hell.

But the half-breed child of Satan has power of her own . . . and a secret that threatens to destroy them all. Betrothed since birth, Amelia defied the Building’s prophecy by marking another as her mate when she was a child. The boy—long-thought dead—has grown in captivity, and has now returned to kill the girl who cursed him. But, bearing her mark, Jonas Wells finds himself unable to harm her.

The passion that ignites between them will bring forth the wrath of everyone in Amelia’s life, including her soulless half-brother (the only person she’s ever truly trusted), and a demon who is determined to make Amelia his own. Amelia knows that to survive she’ll either have to kill Jonas, or go against the Building, her father’s pact, and everything she was brought up to believe.

In the end, her only way out might be to embrace the demon she was meant to become—and face the Devil’s consequences.
